Blank cigar bands are something that we use quite a bit of here at Blind Man’s Puff. We remove the bands that cigars are shipped with and then use blank bands with a review number on the cigars that then get sent out to the reviewers. Over the course of a year we end up using more than 750 blank cigar bands.
I went through about half a box of spills as part of this review and each one had a consistent burn. I used both lighting methods I outlined above and never found that the spill overpowered the cigar flavors. Something to keep an eye out for is the ash from the spill. It is very thin and light, so the slightest breeze could get pieces floating around, so just be conscious of this when using them.
Victor Calvo is a new brand, but Victor Calvo is not new to producing cigars. The company has been producing cigars for other brands for quite some time. "I loved the flavor profile present, really up my alley, and it was complex with a nice bit of depth. There was some transitioning throughout, but it kept this core flavor profile as well that really changed up in thirds. I loved the body and strength present with the cigar and it made for a great evening smoke. I am a big fan of cigars in this size, corona gorda area, and they perform incredibly well when constructed correctly. This will only get better with age, and if it did not have some age on it right now, I would be surprised. I believe a lot of smokers would love this cigar and enjoy what was offered." -Seth (Seth's Humidor)
This was a very nice cigar. There were a core set of flavors that made many transitions throughout. Lots of pepper in the initial third along with cedar and cream. Some sweetness went in and out and the mineral flavor that showed up in the second half of the cigar was a welcome addition. The performance was fantastic and allowed me to just focus on the flavors. A good amount of strength along with the fuller body would make me recommend this as an evening cigar after a meal or as a second or later cigar in the day.

·"I really liked this cigar. It was a great middle of the day smoke, not too strong, not too weak. It reminded me of the Sun Grown Perdomo Champagne. There was lots of flavor, but not too much spice, until the end, when it needed it. I would definitely smoke this again, and might buy a few to age." -Emmett (rhetorik)
This is the time of year that publications, websites and passionate cigar smokers start releasing their “Cigar of the Year” lists. Not all of these lists are created equally though, so we wanted to point out what some of the differences are, what you should be looking for and what to take into consideration when evaluating them or comparing them to other lists.
The Double Black Añejo from Blue Mountain Cigars measures in at 6”x54 and carries an MSRP of $8.00. The cigar has a Brazilian Maduro wrapper.
"This was a very good cigar, especially the first two thirds. If the last third hadn't gotten dry and a little bitter, it would have scored higher. The flavors were not in your face, but quite complex. I liked the transitions it offered and kept me entertained. I would definitely smoke more of these, and I would like to see if the final third was the same in all samples. Not my favorite Cuban, but a solid stick." -Emmett (rhetorik)
This was one of the best Connecticut wrapped cigars I have smoked. It had a little strength to it and the body really kept up with it. The flavors were very good with slight transitions that kept things interesting. The performance was great and didn’t require any attention which always helps the experience. This cigar could do well as a morning cigar or first cigar of the day, but it could also hold up as something smoked later or as a second cigar of the day. I would definitely be up for smoking more of these.
