JR CIgar continues to celebrate their 50th Anniversary with a growing list of collaborators making exclusive cigars. The latest to join the celebration is Nick Melillo and Foundation Cigars for El Güegüense JR 50th. El Güegüense is Spanish for “The Wise Man,” and is also the name of a Nicaraguan dramatic theater piece from the 16th Century. It is one of the oldest indigenous works in the Western Hemisphere. This was Foundation Cigar Company's first release back in 2016. Melillo chose the name in honor of his love of Nicaragua and its people. In 2020, Foundation released a 5th Anniversary edition of the El Güegüense with a slightly tweaked blend and The Foundation El Güegüense JR 50th is based on that special blend.

The flavors were plentiful, balanced and interesting. Construction was top-notch. I highly recommend everyone try this cigar, and I will buy a box. Highly recommend this." -Emmett (BMP_Emmett)
Foundation Cigar Company has announced a new size in the El Güegüense line exclusive for Famous Smoke Shop. The limited edition El Güegüense Toro Box Press measure 6 x 52 and has a soft box-press. Foundation Cigars is adding a new size to its El Güegüense Corojo and The Wise Man Maduro lines. Macho Raton is a 4 ¾ x 60 perfecto that happens to be the same size as the company's 5th anniversary releases. The name Macho Raton is the nickname for the main character, El Güegüense, in the play of the same name. El Güegüense is a transcendent satirical drama that embodies several facets of the Nicaraguan experience
Come September 2020, there will be a new El Güegüense cigar, in the form of the 5yr Aniversario Collector’s chest. Nicholas Melillo debuted the original El Güegüense as one of the first lines in his Foundation Cigar Company in 2015. Now the company is releasing a limited edition 4 ¾ by 60 Perfecto in a special blend for the 5 year anniversary.
Foundation Cigar Company has announced its second line known as “The Upsetters”, a blend of Jamaican and Nicaraguan fillers which is a travel story itself, documenting Melillo’s endless trips to tobacco fields and curing barns. While Foundation’s first brand, El Güegüense was a Nicaraguan puro that paid homage to the culture of Nicaragua
According to Melillo, El Güegüense is blended with vintage-specific tobacco. The blend consists of a Corojo '99 wrapper and binder from Jalapa, though from different farms, while the filler is made up of Criollo and Corojo tobaccos from 2011 and 2012 crop years. (Note: Corojo '99 does not indicate harvest year, but seed variety.)
