Gary Griffith of Emilio Cigars announced this morning that the limited edition Emilio Cigars Draig Cayuquero lanceros will begin shipping on June 25, in honor of his 60th birthday.
In a bittersweet announcement today via their Facebook page, House of Emilio announced that Gary Griffith, Founder and the face of the brand, would be retiring from the company.
July 7, 2017— Emilio Cigars is pleased to announce the upcoming release of LJZ: Hand crafted in Esteli, Nicaragua at Fabrica Oveja Negra. LJZ will be available at select retailers nationwide. This offering will add to the Emilio portfolio and is the second release, following Cavatina, crafted at Fabrica Oveja Negra.
As of today, Black Label Trading Company (BLTC) is taking over the branding and marketing of Emilio Cigars. Going forward, all cigar production will move to BLTC’s factory, Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli, Nicaragua. A lot of the Emilio lines are already rolled there including Cavatina, LJZ, Papa Joe and Grimalkin. Scott Zucca, owner of Emilio Cigars, will continue to be involved and will distribute cigars for both companies through his distribution company L.J. Zucca Inc.
After a few years hiatus, Emilio Cigars is bringing back reblended AF1 and AF2, now made at James Brown's Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli, Nicaragua. This is the first cigar to be produced since the Emilio Cigars and Black Label Trading Company merged back in January. The blends and packaging was done by James Brown owner of BLTC and Fabrica Oveja Negra. Both new cigars will ship this month.

While I would have really liked to have seen some more complexity and changes in profile in such a long smoke, the flavors were very nice and it was a pretty low maintenance stick. "This could easily become my go to morning smoke with a cup of coffee. The mild beginning transitioned to some bolder flavors nicely. Each third developed a distinct profile and stayed true. Smooth notes of spice and hay were the cornerstones, but the char crept in and took over through the second and final third of the cigar. Overall the Emilio Papa Joe is an extremely pleasant smooth smoke with just enough spice for those who enjoy that in a cigar. It is also overall a nice smooth smoke with cedar, baking spices and pepper spice on the retro that it can be enjoyed as your first cigar of the day with coffee or as an everyday smoke at any time of day. It is a very nice addition to the Emilio portfolio by Fabrica Oveja Negra.
