Altadis U.S.A. has expanded the H. Upmann Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez line with a new format, a 38 X 4 handmade cigarillo in a 6- count tin. H. Upmann Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez was originally launched in 2017, this new version will ship mid June 2019. This new vitola is named "Papi" which is a term of endearment and a favorite of master blender A.J. Fernandez, for those close to him.
This cigar was exactly what a project like this should be: not so prominent in the barrel-aged department that it takes over the blend, but enough that you know it was there. It reminded me of the Diesel Unlimited blend both profile-wise and on paper, but just with a little something extra. I'm not sure this is my favorite Diesel release, but it is up there with the Rage and Delirium. Definitely pick some of these up if you are a fan of Diesel, barrel aged cigars, or just want to try something new in general.
I was a bit hesitant as the larger cigars are just not my “go-to” smokes. The cigar was a delight for me to smoke and I would gladly do so again. This stick is full enough to provide a nice array of flavors but not powerful enough to make me want it done before actually reaching the end. For me, this would be a great “Christmas” smoke when in the vicinity of the kitchen with all the Holiday baking going on. " -Diana (ArmyRN)
"The flavors were solid, construction was great, smoke output was rich and creamy, and I found the experience effortless. Without a doubt, it's a solid cigar and one that I would smoke again. The only drawback, to me personally, was that there were no real transitions to speak of and due to the size of the cigar was a bit monotonous. " -Alan (Eulogy)
Smokers will soon be able to smoke a Montecristo cigar as imagined and interpreted by cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez. In a collaboration with cigar distributor Santa Clara Inc., Montecristo Crafted By A.J. Fernandez is the newest version of the heritage Montecristo brand.
"Great looking and performing lancero. If you like an earthy profile this would be a great choice. I did find that it had a lack of transitions and was a bit one-dimensional. Still, the profile was solid and engaging the entire time." -Alan (Eulogy)
The flavor profile on this blend was great with a solid bitter dark chocolate flavor later mixed with some nice baking spices and smokiness. A sneaky black pepper kick made me want to retrohale often to spice up the blend even more. There was just a slight construction or leaf problem causing a major central tunnel in the first couple of inches that weighed this stick down. I'd want to try it again in hopes of getting the full start-to-finish experience." -Lauren S. (Lauren S.)
Diesel is launching a third blend in the Sunday Gravy line - Rosamarino. Diesel Sunday Gravy Rosamarino is a Nicaraguan puro that follows the two previous Sunday Gravy blends, San Marzano and Pecorino. Diesel Sunday Gravy launched in August 2021 as a full-time line of seasonally-released, Nicaraguan-forward smokes, blended and handcrafted through the partnership of AJ Fernandez and Justin Andrews. Blends will be released quarterly, sold until their limited supply is deleted and offered at an MSRP of less than $5.00 per cigar.
"Another cigar I am anxious to see the reveal on. Very complex, with a unique set of flavors that I found very appealing. I will certainly seek this stick out and smoke it again." -Dave (mdwest)

·"Overall this was a good smoke. I think this would not be a good first cigar of the day, but if you had a full day of smoking this would be a nice 2nd or 3rd stick of the day. Just beware it does pick up the spice in the final 1/3rd and through the whole 2nd third, but becomes a nice pleasant smoke at the end." -Mickey T. (irratebass)
