"I have always said how a cigar look does not translate to how it performs. I have smoked some elegant-looking cigars that just didn't deliver. This one was definitely not a beauty queen, but it was a very good cigar. It kind of started to head in the direction of bitter in the middle, but recovered admirably in the final third, making for a cigar that transitioned and developed very well from start to finish. It was also a relatively slow burner. With the burn and draw on point and the strength never getting overwhelming, this is a cigar I would have zero issues handing to a new smoker, nor would I hesitate to hand one to a seasoned aficionado. Looking forward to finding out what this one is! " -Kevin A. (Kevin A.)
J.C. Newman is bringing back Yagua this year, again in limited quantities. We reviewed this cigar last year and gave it a 93. The brand goes all the way back to 1940's in the Cuban tobacco fields.
Espinosa Premium Cigars has announced that their planned La Zona Palooza Event scheduled for November will be virtual due to COVID-19 concerns. The company released this statement:
Cigar Dojo and Alec & Bradley are collaborating again, this time on Dojo Chico. This project is an homage to the Topo Chico brand of sparkling mineral water that many cigar enthusiasts, Cigar Dojo and Blind Man's Puff included, have come to embrace while smoking a cigar.
Drew Estate has announced “The Drew Estate Goodwill Act of 2021,” an initiative designed to honor the spirit of the 2021 Barn Smoker Program and the DE25 Celebration by deploying a token of appreciation to those who purchased tickets to attend these events that were cancelled or postponed due to the rise of the COVID-19 Delta Variant.
Jas Sum Kral is making a shop exclusive for Lou Liga Cigar Lounge: Jas Sum Kral Fish Scale. This new lounge is located in Fishtown, Philadelphia, PA. The company says this is the first in a line of planned exclusives for Lou Liga.
"While not the most complex cigar, it was mighty tasty for the flavors it gave, never becoming sour, even at the end. The artwork on the cigar itself was very appealing and a nice change of pace from the norm, giving it a special feeling and anxiousness to light it up and smoke it! For smokable art, it was a mighty fine cigar which I wouldn’t mind smoking again in the future." -John A. (Bostoneo)
Alec Bradley's Black Market Filthy Hooligan Barber Pole and Filthy Hooligan Shamrock will return for 2022. Tobacconists can now pre-order these limited edition cigars for Spring of next year.
"What started out as a phenomenal cigar faded quickly to bitter then harsh. There was such a great sweetness and fruit profile at the beginning I settled in to what I thought was going to be an epic cigar. Instead, the cigar turned dry and earthy with heavy ground coffee and wood notes on the finish. I will be curious to find out what this cigar is and determine if I just got the "one off" from the floor that was just not great, or if this is a common profile of the cigar." -Kevin A. (Kevin A.)
